Accies Career

Overview

Mr Reliable as far as the fans of the 70's and 80's were concerned. Jim was signed as an inside right when he came from Saltcoats Victoria in 1971, on the recommendation of a former player, Johnny Frye. Soon after in an emergency, Jim was fielded at right back, and that was to be his position for the remainder of his stay at Douglas Park, in fact up until 1982 he had no serious rival for the number 2 jersey.

His inside forward strengths, e.g. ball control were put to good use as he made his foraging runs from the back, though sometimes his final pass could have been better. Still, not too many players have played for the club as often as Jim has done. In all games he turned out four hundred and forty three times, plus ten as a substitute.

To celebrate his 400th appearances he was presented with a carriage clock on 12th September 1981. A one club man as far as the senior grade is concerned. He was voted as Accies Player of the Year in 1977. Acted as Coach to Irvine Meadow on his retiral from Hamilton in 1983. He was carrying out similar duties with Ardeer Thistle eight years later.

Born in Irvine on 13th October 1950.

Debut on 2nd August 1971 when he came on as a substitute in a Friendly Match at home to Walsall which Accies lost 2-0.
