MILLER, Hugh (1932)

Overview

A new full back who was signed in April 1931 from Larkhall Thistle. In 1933 he was played at centre forward with the reserves and was quite successful until he sustained a broken collar bone which resulted in him not being available for a lengthy spell.

With “Puggy” Allan and Jamie Bulloch holding down the full back positions he had great difficulty in breaking into the side. When Allan was transferred to Motherwell he was not able to command a regular place as Bobby Wallace had been brought into the side and by April 1935 Hugh had played his last game for Accies.

A year earlier he picked up a Second Eleven Cup Winners medal when the Cup came to Douglas Park for the first and only time. While with the reserve eleven he occasionally turned out at centre forward and on he was played there once for the first team in 1935. On his League debut in 1932 it was said that he kicked well. Hugh was born in Strathaven.

When he left Douglas Park he joined Albion Rovers. While at Cliftonhill he appeared at centre forward on several occasions with a good scoring record to his name. Given a free transfer in April 1939 along with his townsman “Puggy” Allan. Hugh was employed by the Electricity Board.

Weighed 11sts 7lbs and was 5’6” in height.

Debut on 17th September 1932 in a Scottish League match at home to Airdrieonians.
