HILL, Davie (1929)

Overview

Although Davie’s early days at Douglas Park in 1929 were at right or left half, he soon moved to the middle of the defence and there he played many important matches for the club. In his first match the local press reporter thought that he was rather slow, nevertheless he went on to claim a regular place in the side over the next few years. From January 1st 1932 until 25th August 1934 he missed only 1 League game for Accies out of a possible 94 at centre half. In addition he turned out in all of the Scottish Cup ties played during that period, which represented another 7 games.

Previous to coming to Douglas Park he was at Alloa having gone there from Yoker Athletic. Prior to that he was with Barr and Stroud and Anniesland Young Methodists. In September 1933 he was named as reserve centre half when the selectors picked the side to meet the Irish League in Belfast.

It came as rather a surprise in August 1934 when he was transferred to Plymouth Argyle. In 1937 he was signed by Southport. He was born in Prestwick on 2nd June 1904.

Weighed 11sts 8lbs and stood 5’10” tall when playing. His death was reported in 1989.

Debut on 21st September 1929 in a Scottish League match away to St Johnstone.
