What we do
KAFAL provides nutrition input (protein based diet, in addition to their government provided meals) to children of a local government school. It also takes care of other education related needs of these children. It engages with them periodically to discuss local issues. It joins them in celebrating festivals and on special occasions to ensure that they do not feel left out.

KAFAL had begun with the idea of providing educational opportunities and support to children to enable them to grow in an environment similar to that of their more fortunately endowed peers.

A clearer understanding of their needs revealed that inadequate nutrition was a serious problem, mid-day meal notwithstanding. This became Kafal’s initial focus.

The programmed has been running for over three years and teachers report significant improvement in their health and well being as well as their attention span and performance.

Supplemental classes aimed at reinforcing school learning have also been started recently. A program me to promote computer literacy and internet based learning is on the anvil.

KAFAL believes that opportunity plays a great role in shaping a child and that children from under privileged background need to be given breakthrough opportunities that place them in learning environments similar to the kind available to children from higher economic strata.

In keeping with its philosophy, KAFAL had sponsored a girl child to a residential school in the academic session started in April 2013. All her school and other related expenses (at about Rs 3 lakh per year) are met by KAFAL.

The girl was selected by the school administration on the basis of her performance. She belongs to a family with very limited means and meets KAFAL's income criterion. KAFAL will support her till she becomes self reliant.
