SCHOOL ASSIGNMENT

Tim Cartwright’s class dealt with fairy tales. Miss Beth Clark read her students a few before.

“Who’s seen fairy tales in real life?”, she asked after a while.

Tim raised his hand to answer.

“Yes, Tim. Tell”, said Beth.

“In the Netherlands there is an amusement park with a very nice fairy forest. There are several fairy tales to be seen there. In winter they can be admired in the snow”, told the young Cartwright.

“I give you the following assignment: rewrite a fairy tale of up to 500 words in the modern age. The best essay deserves a prize. I want it Friday”, said Beth.

Tim was picked up by his father Matthew Cartwright.

“We need to rewrite a fairy tale in the modern era. Which one will I take?”, asked the boy on the way home.

“There’s plenty of choice. We’ll help you with it”, said Matthew.

Tim said, “Sleeping Beauty was kissed awake by a beautiful princess. And they lived happily ever after. Or this: Snow White took care of the 7 smurfs.”

His father couldn’t stop laughing.

Coming home, Tim told his father Mitch Cartwright about the essay.

“I do take the fairy tale of Little Red Riding Hood and grow it a bit much She is after all the sweetest girl of the whole Fairy Forest”, said the boy at the end of his story.

“Use your laptop. Grandma Nelly will check with you”, said Mitch.

Tim went to his room and went to work.

LITTLE RED CAP

Once was a girl who always wore a red baseball cap forever. Her name was Little Red Cap. The girl lived with her 2 fathers on the edge of the forest and went every day on her electric bike to grandpa who lived on the other side of the forest.

“Stay on the bike path and don’t tear through the forest too hard”, said her father.

“I will. Bye daddy”, said Little Red Cap.

“And don’t shake too much with the beer for grandpa”, said her other father.

The girl nodded. She packed her pannier with beer and space cake and set off.

Along the way, Little Red Cap ran into the little scary wolf.

“Hello Little Red Cap, You go to Grandpa again?”, he asked.

“Yes, he’s waiting for me”, she answered.

“What do you have for him in your bike bag?”, asked the wolf.

“Like every day: beer and space cake”, said Little Red Cap.

“Yuck, what healthy stuff. I’m going to bingo with grandma”, said the wolf.

He quickly ran away so that Little Red Cap could go to Grandpa quickly.

From that day on, Little Red Cap no longer had any problems with the wolf. And she lived happily ever after.

Nelly had been a teacher in the past and helped Tim with his schoolwork. When she read the essay, it took her an hour to get laughed at.

“I think it’s an excellent story. But I’m afraid your teacher didn’t mean it that way”, she said a little more smiling.

“That’s her problem”, found Tim.

Nelly agreed with him.

On Friday, Tim neatly submitted his essay. In advance, he knew Beth would disapprove.

While the class was drawing and the teacher was checking the drafts, Beth suddenly said, “Timothy Cartwright, I want you to stay this afternoon.”

The boy nodded and continued with his drawing.

After school.

On lunch break, Beth had called Tim’s parents and asked them if they wanted to come and talk about Tim. So Mitch and Matthew went to school to talk to their son’s teacher.

“I wonder what Tim has done now. Fortunately, he doesn’t have Miss Ab as a teacher”, said Mitch.

He meant Miss Ab Abigail Jones who was still in love with his father Adam Cartwright.

“Miss Clark is pretty old-fashioned. Even though she’s our age”, reacted Matthew.

He parked the jeep in front of the school and got out. Mitch also got out and looked at the school building.

Beth was already waiting for the gentlemen. That was to say, she expected Mitch to come with a woman instead of a man.

“Mr Cartwright, where is your wife?”, asked Beth surprised and shocked.

“I’m married to Matt here. Together, we raise Tim. Any objection to?”, was Mitch’s second question.

“You’re not related to the Cartwrights at the Ponderosa ranch, are you?”, Beth wanted to know.

“I thought we were going to talk about Tim?”, Mitch asked her question ignoring.

“Come on. I have a big problem with the essay Tim submitted. Apart from some spelling mistakes, it’s a good essay. But it can’t carry my approval. Your son has been removed from this school for good. Here’s the essay”, said Beth.

She gave the essay back and wanted to leave.

“Miss Clark, To answer your question: like my father and I, Tim is also heir to the Ponderosa ranch owner Ben Cartwright. Tim is his great-grandson. We live and work on part of the Ponderosa. Have a nice day”, replied Mitch.

Beth boiled with rage as Mitch and Matthew took their son home.

“Tim, from Monday, Grandma Nelly will teach you at the B&B. You’re out of school because of your essay”, said Matthew on his way home.

“I like it best”, said the boy.

He was increasingly tutored by Nelly Jones who lived with them in the B&B.

The news that Tim Cartwright had been expelled by Beth Clark went like wildfire all over Virginia City.

At home, Tim asked, “Daddy, can I mail the Dutch version of my fairy tale to grandpa and grandma in the Netherlands?”

“Go on and on and on and on and on and I wonder what they think”, was Mitch’s answer.

Soon Tim got a response from the Netherlands. Grandpa Mark and grandma Diana Jenson thought it was a great story.

Matthew had taken the husky Chip and immediately let his in-laws read the essay. Mitch was the eldest son of Adam Cartwright and his first wife Mary. He had remarried Sally Baxton seven years after her death, and so they were Matthew’s in-laws.

“What a nice story. So our grandson was expelled from school for this essay?”, Sally asked after she read it.

“Yes, and probably because he has two dads. Nelly is ready to teach him from Monday”, replied Matthew.

Adam read the essay and suggested, “Why don’t you let Tim make a comic out of it? He knows the story and is very good at drawing.”

“I’ll introduce it to him”, said his son-in-law.

Nelly decided to use Adam’s proposal as a homework assignment. Now that Tim was learning at home, his school grades were improving sharply. And his whole family was happy with that.
