To relax himself Ponderosa owner Ben Cartwright had decided to start in the garden behind the house a flower garden. Long ago his third wife Marie had started with it but after her passing it had become heavily neglected somehow. With much love and patient many flowers were planted again and rising and it was a beautiful sight.
But one morning the flowers were gone. Ben came to inspect his flower garden and his biggest fear had become truth. The most beautiful flowers were picked.
“Who has picked my flowers?”, he wondered himself out loud.
The rancher knew that his three sons (Adam, Hoss and Little Joe) couldn’t have done it. But he didn’t know where his two year old grandson Mitch was. Because the boys were busy with the round up of the cattle Adam had left his son Mitch at home.
In the ranch house Mitch gave a bunch of flowers to the Chinese cook Hop Sing.
“For grandpa”, the toddler said.
“Hop Sing will take care of them and put in vase. Little Mitch say where vase must stand”, said Hop Sing.
So said, so done.
Mitch said, “Flowers must stand on little table so that grandpa can see them well.”
Hop Sing put the vase with flowers on the salon table. Here after he went back to the kitchen. Mitch went to look for his grandpa. At the flower garden the toddler saw his beloved grandpa.
“Grandpa, I have a surprise for you”, said Mitch.
He grabbed the hand of the rancher and pulled him along to the ranch house. They went inside.
“Grandpa, flowers are for you picked by me”, said Mitch.
Ben saw the flowers from his garden and understood everything. He went to sit on the settee and pulled Mitch near him.
“Mitch, thank you very much for the flowers. But the next time when you want to pick flowers again, ask first”, said the rancher.
Mitch understood it and nodded.
Since then no more flowers got stolen from the garden of the Ponderosa.
