Hoss Cartwright was home alone with his 6-year-old nephew Mitch. Because it was about lunchtime, Hoss decided to have lunch with the boy.
“Mitchy, are you coming to lunch?”, he asked.
“I'm coming. What did you have in mind? Cheese sandwich with carrot juice?”, Mitch asked in turn.
“Nice suggestion. I was thinking more like a fried egg. If you want a cheese sandwich, I’ll make it for you”, said Hoss.
They walked to the kitchen to get started.
Mitch spread the sandwiches and put cheese on them while Hoss stood by the gas stove.
“Here are the cheese sandwiches. Put an egg in there for me and then fry in the frying pan”, said Mitch.
Hoss put the cheese sandwiches in the pan, put an egg on it and put another sandwich on the sandwich. In another frying pan he baked a 3 double omelets with ham. He stirred the ham through the egg and soon the smell of fried egg hung through the kitchen.
A little later, uncle and cousin sat at a blissful lunch.
“Uncle Hoss, how many eggs have you taken for your fried egg?”, Mitch suddenly asked.
“Twelve. Why?”, asked Hoss surprised.
“Just like that”, replied his nephew.
“I can't live on one cheese sandwich like yours”, said Hoss.
“If I eat your meal, I’ll get nauseous during practice this afternoon”, reacted Mitch.
“We’ll wash dishes together, and then I’ll take you to practice. I’ll stay there too”, said Hoss.
Mitch liked it best.
While washing dishes, Hoss said:“ From now on when we are at home together we make such a delicious lunch.”
“Agreed. But this remains among us”, replied his nephew.
“At least I can talk to you”, Hoss said smiling.
This made their bond even closer than it already was.
