Play Baseball

Because there was also a baseball field at the Ponderosa Bed & Breakfast it was used a lot by the grandchildren of Ben Cartwright. The rancher let the B&B run by his oldest grandson Mitch who was married to Matthew Walker. They had a 5 year old son, Tim. The boy eagerly watched how the others were playing baseball. He wanted to learn it too and decided to ask it his father. Mitch was outside busy when Tim came to sit by him.

“Daddy, are you busy?”, asked Tim.

“Not really. Why?”, was the counter-question of his father.

“Would you like to teach me how to hit?”, was the following question.

“Is that the reason why you also have my glove, bat and a ball with you?”, asked Mitch.

Tim nodded. Mitch stopped with working and put the Ipad in the office. After that father and son went to the baseball field. Their dog Chip went along

“Daddy, how long has it been that you stopped with playing baseball?”, asked Tim.

Mitch thought for a moment and answered then, “That was 3 years ago. I got a serious ankle injury whereby I had to stop. Then Matt and I have began with the B&B.”

Tim learned how he had to hit. Mitch put a pole near the home plate. Then he put a ball on it. He helped his son how he had to hold the bat.

“Tim, hit the ball away”, said Mitch.

The youngest Cartwright hit the ball far away at once. The husky ran after the ball to bring it back again.

“Tim, I think that you are a baseball talent as well”, Mitch said proud as a peacock.

Tim was also proud of himself.

But just like his father Tim was also not very modest because he said, “I know that for sure.”

Mitch sighed because now he understood what his father had to go through with him. Tim put on his won the ball on the pole and hit it again far away. Chip ran after the ball to bring it back again. Meanwhile Matthew had come nearer as well.

“Ma told that you were here. Can Tim do it a bit?”, asked Matthew.

“He is just like his father a baseball talent and also very immodest”, answered Mitch.

“Then I know enough”, was the reaction of his husband.

The 2 helped their son with hitting and throwing which Tim learned very quickly. Also base running was good with him.

After a few hours Mitch asked, “Why don’t you go and ask for 4 ice creams by grandma?”

Tim ran straight back home. Chip ran with him.

“Shall we take him along to the stadium tomorrow?”, asked Matthew.

“That is alright”, answered Mitch.

Yet before they could discuss it further Tim and Chip were back again with 4 ice creams.

The next afternoon Mitch, Matthew and Tim had gone to the baseball stadium.

“Is this stadium ours?”, Tim asked amazed.

“Yes, we always may come in for free”, answered Mitch.

Mitch was a bit shaky when he got on the baseball field. His husband Matthew noticed that and looked at him.

“Have you missed the field?”, asked Matthew.

“Well, not really. But now I’m here again the feeling and willing to play baseball returns again”, answered Mitch.

Tim let show what he had learned the previous afternoon.

After a while the boy said, “Now I want to see how good or bad you can hit.”

“Timothy Cartwright, you really don’t mean this”, said his father.

Matthew protested too but it was no use. Both his the ball far away. Tim was satisfied.

From that moment on Tim also played along with the others on the baseball field of the B&B.
