Somewhere far away laid a big ranch called the Ponderosa. Owner Ben Cartwright lived there for years with his 2 youngest sons Hoss and Little Joe. The loyal Chinese cook Hop Sing wasn’t left out too. But 1 person was not around and that was the eldest son of Ben, Adam. He had left the house years ago to see something from the world and let something know of now and then.
“Pa, mustn’t you write Adam with the question when he comes home?”, Hoss asked when he came home for the umpteenth time with the mail but without a letter from his oldest brother.
“He will come home one time. Your brother is old and wise enough to decide for himself if and when he comes home”, answered Ben.
Hoss knew that too but he often went hunting with Adam and he missed that.
One day Hop Sing looked out of the kitchen window and he couldn’t believe his eyes. Excited the cook came running into the living room.
“Hop Sing, what is the matter?”, Ben asked amazed.
“Outside Mr Adam come on Sport”, said Hop Sing.
The 3 Cartwrights looked at each other amazed for a second and ran then outside. There came the lost son riding on his faithful sorrel.
“Adam, is it really you?”, asked Ben.
“Yes pa, it’s really me. I had enough of the travelling and decided then to go home”, answered Adam.
He dismounted and got a very warm welcome from his brothers and father. Now Ben knew that al his sons really had come home.
