Taste In Music

Sometime after the birth of their son Mitch, Adam and Mary Cartwright got a visit from an old classmate of Mary, Stella Bennet. She knew everything better (at least she thought so) and did intrusive everyone her opinion.

Stella drove upon the yard of the Ponderosa ranch and saw the big ranch house. She parked the car just in front of the front door and got out. Here after she walked to the front door and knocked. Mary answered and was surprised to see her. They never had been real friends and now Stella had phoned to renew their friendship.

“Welcome to the Ponderosa. Come in”, Mary said inviting.

“Thank you. Nice to see you again”, the female visitor said extremely friendly.

They went to sit in the living room. Stella sat on the settee and saw that way the playpen of Mitch (who was then 5 months old).

“Of who is that playpen?”, Stella asked curious.

“That is of our child. I gave birth in December to my and Adam’s 1st child”, answered Mary.

She kept silent that the baby was born on Christmas Day.

“So you have gotten a child in December? How nice. Can I see her?”, asked Stella.

“You won't be able to see her because we got a boy. He lies upstairs listening to music and perhaps he sleeps already”, answered Mary.

“Then I would like to see him”, said Stella.

“Come on upstairs”, said the young mother.

They got up and went to the nursery where Mitch was sleeping with music of Creedence Clearwater Revival at the background. Mary opened the door softly and let Stella in.

“He sleeps already”, Mary said softly.

Stella saw the baby and said, “He is cute but that music for him is not done. You must play baby music for him, not that noise!”

“We have tried to make him listen to baby music but then Mitch, so is our son called, started to cry enormously. And with the music of Creedence Clearwater Revival he sleeps. So now Mitch listens to their music”, answered Mary.

“And your husband agrees with that?”, Stella asked unbelievable.

“Yes. My son is a Cartwright too and sometimes they are a bit obstinate”, answered Mary.

They went downstairs again.

Stella asked, “I must conclude that you are a very bad mother for your child! I may assume that Mitch has that taste of music from you, hasn’t he?”

“Indeed. Do you have children?”, Mary wanted to know.

“No, I’m not blessed with that”, said Stella.

Meanwhile the husband of Mary, Adam, had com nearer and he heard the conversation.

“Mary is an excellent mother for Mitch and she really doesn’t need your blessing and/or advice. You know where the door is”, said Adam.

Now Stella looked at Adam and inside she was boiling of anger.

“This is the 1st and last time that I come here! Good day!”, she snapped where after she left quickly.

“Good riddance”, Mary said from the bottom of her heart.

Adam took his wife into his arms and said, “I can’t imagine a better mother for our son than you.”

“And you are the best father for him”, reacted his wife.

They kissed each other and knew that they were happy with their son.
