Since a while Adam Cartwright went with the lovely Sally Baxton. They were mad about each other and were to be found together very much. But Sally wasn’t only fond of her conquering but also of his children Mitch and Pam of eleven years old. After a very hard time for the twins Sally had taken the time and trouble to get the lives of the young Cartwrights back on track again.
Despite the care of the Cartwrights was Sally wasn’t feeling alright. She was very tired and had to throw up very much. Adam Cartwright was very concerned about her.
When she threw up one morning very badly he said, “Now we go to the doctor for you first!”
Sally didn’t even protest.
Doctor Paul Martin examined Sally and knew enough.
“Adam and Sally, congratulations because you will become parents”, said Paul.
On the way home said Sally:“Soon we have 3 to look after.”
“Yes, if you don’t count my brothers with it”, reacted Adam.
Sally didn’t react to that but she knew exactly what he meant.
On Thanksgiving Day November 24 1874 Sally got the surprise of her life. A few week prior to that Adam had gone to San Francisco for business like he had said. Sally had taken care of the children and also for the other Cartwrights. That were ranch owner Ben Cartwright and his two youngest sons Hoss and Little Joe.
That evening Adam asked his girlfriend, “Sally, would you like to marry me?”
Sally didn’t know what to say and got tears in her eyes.
“With the greatest pleasure”, she said sobbing of happiness.
Adam took his finance into his arms and kissed her. Mitch and Pam looked at each other laughing.
“Adam and Sally, congratulations with your wedding. When is the big day?”, asked Ben.
“As soon as possible”, said Sally.
“On Tuesday December 15?”, asked Adam.
His finance nodded.
“We still have something else to tell. We are having a baby”, said Sally.
“Great. When will the little one be expected?”, asked Ben.
“May”, said Adam.
The days that followed were good filled. Because Adam still exactly knew how the days before his first marriage had been he and Sally kept everything a secret for the outside world. Until her wedding she remained at the ranch because she didn’t want let any rumors come.
Hoss and Little Joe were together blowing up balloons to hang them everywhere. Suddenly Hoss let one go so that it flew across the living room. Both brothers thought it was funny and did it again. Then foreman Candy Canaday and his employer Ben Cartwright came in.
“Mr Cartwright, I wonder who now exactly the children are: your two youngest sons or the twins of Adam and Sally”, Candy said dry.
“I wonder that myself too, Candy”, Ben replied sighing.
“Sorry pa. It won’t happen again”, Little Joe apologized on behalf of Hoss.
The day of the wedding of Adam and Sally had finally come. Like it was arranged this took place at the Ponderosa. Pam was the bridesmaid of her stepmother while Mitch was the best man of his father. Janet Jackson had come early to the ranch to support her friend Sally. In the elderly bedroom the bride was already busy getting dressed when Janet came in. Sally helped Pam with her dress.
“The baby is present too”, said the young Cartwright.
“Yes, but it is not so visible yet. About a month it is really good visible”, said Sally.
“And in May really good at all”, Pam reacted teasing.
“Do not remind me of that yet”, said Sally.
“So, you let the reason of your wedding easily guess”, Janet said teasing.
Sally looked at her and replied, “We marry because we love each other and now Mitch and Pam get a mother who loves them. We won’t be going on a honeymoon anyway.”
She went to sit down. Janet went to sit next to her girlfriend.
“David and I are expecting another child. I am four months on the way and already quite big. Look at my belly”, said Janet.
She showed her belly.
“Are you really sure that you are expecting just one child?”, asked Sally.
“Almost sure”, said Janet.
“I do hope that the delivery goes fast”, said Sally.
“Chipper even dared to come on Thanksgiving Day”, said Janet.
She helped Sally into her wedding dress.
She adjusted the dress for a second and said, “Just look at yourself in the mirror.”
The bride did that but she wasn’t really satisfied.
“Am I not too big for this dress?”, Sally asked uncertain.
“No. It just sign you well”, reacted Janet.
“About one month it won’t fit me anymore”, Sally said laughing.
In the living room David said to Adam, “Our wives have one discussion thing in common: babies. Janet talks about nothing else since she found that she will be a mother again.”
“Sally is crazy about Mitch and Pam and the other way around”, reacted Adam.
“Fortunately. Or you would have troubles again”, said David.
“The twins have made sure that this marriage takes place”, replied Adam.
At ten o'clock the wedding solemnization began. Just before that Sally came down the stairs in her wedding dress. Adam looked breathless at his wife-to-be and his heart began to beat harder.
Reverend Jack Ward did again the wedding solemnization.
He started, “We are here together to bind these two young people together. Their love has known very much problems and also much absence but their invisible bond brought them together though to be bind together forever. If anyone has objections against this marriage, he or she speak now or silence forever.”
It remained still so the reverend continued, “Do you take, Adam Poindexter Cartwright, Sally Baxton to be your legal wife for better and worse until death do you part?”
“Yes, I do”, said Adam.
“Do you take , Sally Baxton, Adam Poindexter Cartwright, to be your legal husband for better and worse until death do you part?”, the reverend asked Sally.
“Yes, I do”, said Sally.
Mitch and Pam came with the rings.
“Then I declare you husband and wife. Adam, you may kiss your bride now”, said Jack.
That happened with much love and passion. Ben had Mitch and Pam with him and saw that his grandchildren were now really deliriously happy. The married couple got congratulated by all present. Then Hop Sing came in with two big cakes.
“Hop Sing baked two big cakes for married couple”, said the cook.
Sally cut both cakes where after everyone got a piece. Even Cody and Lucky weren’t forgotten.
The rest of the day men celebrated the party at the ranch.
Other than any other recent married couple Adam and Sally decided not to go on their honeymoon because they didn't want and couldn't to miss their children and dog Cody and cat Lucky. Instead of that Adam took a month off to spend that time with his new family.
