COFFEE BREAK

It was lovely spring weather when Adam Cartwright was alone at home to update the administration. After a few hours the eldest Cartwright boy decided to put in a coffee break.

Due to the beautiful weather the coffee break got being held outside. Hop Sing, the cook of the Cartwrights, had brought the de coffee jar to the porch. Adam enjoyed in all peace of the coffee and the silence.

He said to himself, “Was it each day as silence as now at the ranch. Soon the twins come again and of course my little brothers to disturb the peace.”

Quickly Adam took another cup of coffee whereby the jar was empty. Fortunately for Adam but not for his youngest brother Little Joe. The latter came riding fast and stopped just in front of the ranch house. Adam saw him coming and sighted deep.

“What do you come to do little brother? Checking if I am working?”, Adam asked sarcastic.

“Very funny Adam. I must collect some things of pa. So I thought to combine that with a coffee break with you”, was the answer of Little Joe.

Adam pointed at the coffee jar and said, “You know where the coffee jar is.”

Little Joe dismounted and walked to the table on the porch. Without further thinking he grabbed a mug and the coffee jar. While picking up the coffee jar Little Joe suspected the worst. He put the mug down and looked into the jar.

“Exactly what I suspected. An empty coffee jar! Thank you very much Adam Cartwright! I had made time free for a coffee break together and you empty the jar quickly”, groaned Little Joe.

Adam took a last sip of his coffee and said then, “It was nice that you dropped by but I have to get on with the administration. I want to have it ready before the kids have to be collected. Bye Joe.”

He went inside and left his brother alone behind. Little Joe watched him go angry and decided to get the requested things along and to leave Adam alone with his hobby: the administration.
