CONFRONTATION

It happened at a party in Virginia City. The whole evening there was hanging a pressure in the air. Toby Miller was one of the people present and had a gruesome dislike towards Cartwrights. He saw that the six year old son of Adam, Mitch, was there too.

At a given moment he came to Adam Cartwright with an extensive smile on his face.

“Cartwright, can you entertain yourself while your little son is crippled?”, Toby asked hateful.

“Shut your dirty mouth concerning my son. He is not as a social as you are”, reacted Adam.

“I am not crippled and he is”, Toby said laughing.

Adam did not take that remark and sold his enemy a considerable smack. Toby flew by the half room and came against the table with the scale with drank. The scale rolled over and fell overrunning Toby gone. Although it was serious the younger brothers of Adam, Hoss and Little Joe, had quite a laugh. In the meantime Ben Cartwright and Glen Parker held Adam in control.

“Miller, disappear before you must be buried”, Ben warned.

Toby left immediately. Adam jerked themselves loose and withdrew himself with his son in a corner.

Once at home at the Ponderosa Mitch was brought to bed by his uncles Hoss and Little Joe so Ben and Adam could talk quietly.

“Adam, I am not pleased concerning your behavior on the party in Virginia City”, said Ben serious.

“Pa, I know that but Miller started. He offended Mitch and I don’t have to take that from anybody”, answered Adam.

“What concerns Mitch I agree with you but you state not a good example for him if you directly start fight with someone. You must try not to lose your self control so fast”, said the rancher. Adam nodded.

He said, “Alright pa. I will try it.”

Meanwhile Toby and Glen had a secret meeting.

“You did that splendid to Cartwright. That child means everything for him and is weak point at the same time for him. For all Cartwrights as a matter of fact”, Glen said.

He paid his friend hundred dollars.

“On to the next confrontation with Cartwright”, Toby said grinning.

Toby did not have to wait long because the next day were Ben and Adam were with Mitch and their dog Cody in town. Toby saw them coming and started to laugh. At the Virginia City bank they stopped. Ben jumped from the box and looked at his eldest son.

“Adam, wait here for me”, said Ben.

“Alright pa”, said Adam.

He jumped also from it and lifted his son and dog from it. Toby came stand and looked at Mitch. Ben wanted to go inside but remained standing by the door.

“Are you on the road again with your little son and daddy?”, Toby asked Adam.

“We can go and stand where we want. You are not the boss here”, Adam answered calmly.

“Cartwright, I do live here in the city and you don’t. Therefore that means that I have more rights in the city than you do”, said Toby.

Adam saw the wife of Toby, Liza coming in the distance with a rolling-pin in her hands.

He said smiling, “Miller, according to me you only have 1 right in Virginia City and that is your right to kitchen duty”

“Don’t make me laugh. My wife has nothing to tell because I am the boss at home. She only has 1 right and that his her right to kitchen duty ”, Toby answered sneering.

“Oh yes? There she is happen to be coming” , said Adam.

Toby turned around and looked into the raging eyes of his wife.

“Come along you and do the dishes!”, she snarled.

To Adam she said, “Adam, sorry for the nuisance which Toby caused. I will tackle him more strictly.”

Adam nodded enjoying. He took its son on and together they looked how Toby dripped down. Ben came to them and said smiling, “Adam, this way is also a way to solve it. I don’t think we will ever have trouble with him as long as his wife lives.”

“In the meantime we go to have a drink at the Silver Dollar. We wait there for you. Come on Cody”, said Adam.

Ben nodded.
