It was nearly Easter. At a flea market Hoss Cartwright had bought something very special for a bargain. Wild enthusiastic he came home with his new toy. He had the luck that his eldest brother Adam wasn’t home with his 7 year old son Mitch because then Hoss had heard one thing or another. Those who were at home did have the necessary comments about the new buy of Hoss. That were his father Ben and younger brother Little Joe.
“Pa, Joe, just look what I have bought. A very apart rifle”, he called excited when entering.
The mentioned Cartwrights came to him and looked at him curiously.
“I have here a rifle where you can shoot around the corner with”, said Hoss.
He showed the rifle which had a bended barrel.
“You can shoot around the corner with this? Don’t make me laugh”, Little Joe screaming with laughter.
“Hoss, how much have you paid for this rifle?”, Ben asked seriously.
“It cost me only 4 dollar. A real bargain”, answered his son.
“Can you shoot with it as well?”, Little Joe asked while still laughing.
“I will give a demonstration outside”, said Hoss.
They went outside. Hoss grabbed his rifle and fired a shot. But what came out of it was no bullet but an Easter egg. The Cartwrights looked at each other amazed. Hoss looked where the egg laid and came with it to his father and brother.
“Pa, this rifle doesn’t contain bullets but Easter eggs”, Hoss said stupefied.
“From whom did you buy this rifle? Not from the Easter Bunny?”, Ben asked worried.
“No, from Santa”, Little Joe said laughing.
“No, I bought it from a man who had no use to I anymore”, answered Hoss.
He noticed that he wasn’t taken seriously. Ben and Little Joe went inside again while Hoss stayed outside. He checked the rifle once again clearly.
“Dadburnit! This is an unique rifle. I have the only rifle where you can shoot around the corner with and shoots Easter eggs”, Hoss said to himself.
He was very proud of himself though and thought, ‘Let the Easter days now begin.’
Of course Hoss got teased a lot by his younger brother but he just took that into the bargain. He had an apart rifle and Little Joe didn’t.
