SLEEPING

It had been a warm and long day for the Cartwrights. That’s why they stopped at a little brook to hold a siesta. But that was such a good idea?

Adam dreamed the following: he was back in school again and there would come a new teacher. He didn’t know who would teach him. Suddenly the door went open and who stepped into the class room? Abigail Jones. To her big enjoy she only saw Adam sitting in the school seats and with love she gave him private lessons.

Hoss dreamed too but his dream wasn’t far from funny too. He was in Virginia City for business when he heard a voice.

“Hoss Cartwright. Sweet Hoss Cartwright. Come to me”, a voice called.

Hoss looked around him but didn’t see anyone who called him. Again he heard the plea. He decided to walk in the in the direction of the voice and that had effect. Finally Hoss came to a shop where a sign was hanging on the door which said: ‘Free cakes for Hoss Cartwright.’ Of course Hoss went inside but when he tasted the cakes he didn’t know how fast he had to leave the shop again.

“Dadburnit, those cakes are made of carrots and cheese. Little Joe must be behind this for sure!”, he groaned.

The dream of Ben was not also very funny. Since widow Clementine Hawkins had met him and had an eye on the rancher Ben avoided her as much as possible. But the impossible had happened. Widow Hawkins had changed into Mrs Benjamin Cartwright and she lived on the Ponderosa. It had happened during a business trip of Ben when he came home again. He rode on his horse Buck upon the yard when he saw to his big amazing a big sign hanging which read ‘Pension Ponderosa’. The rancher dismounted and went inside.

“Hello ducky. Nice to see you again. As you can see I have made some small changes here and there. I thought with so many rooms left and your sons have all left the house; why don’t we use the rooms for guest rooms?”, asked Clementine.

Ben was speechless.

Little Joe also didn’t have a very pleasant dream. He rode on his horse Cochise and saw everywhere arrows with the text: ‘This way Little Joe Cartwright!’ The young Cartwright followed curiously the arrows and finally ended up at the town hall. He dismounted and went inside. But what he found there didn’t even happen in is naughtiest dreams or thoughts. All the girls and women he had made a pass on in his life were waiting for him in their wedding dress.

The Cartwrights woke up at once but were so wise not to share their dreams with the others.

“Boys, I don’t even want to know what you have dreamed and I am not going to tell what I have dreamed but this siesta was not a good idea”, said Ben.

“That was the idea of Little Joe”, said Hoss.

“Of course it was a dumb idea but I am now well rested”, Adam remarked.

“If you are all so well rested we go back to work again”, said Ben.

The Cartwrights had learned their lesson about an afternoon nap and they would never do it again too.
