A NEW CARTWRIGHT

It was May 1992. For a while now Mary Cartwright wasn’t feeling alright. She was sick all the time and very tired. One morning she decided to go to their family doctor Paul Martin.

That certain morning Adam noticed that his wife wasn’t alright. He happen to be home to pick up some supplies when Mary was about to leave.

“Darling, where are you going to?”, Adam asked worried.

“I have an appointment with the doctor. For 3 weeks I am so sick”, she said.

Adam took her into his arms and said, “I go with you.”

“Maybe I am pregnant. I am two months late already”, Mary said while she got in.

“That would be great”, reacted Adam.

He got in and started the car.

The Cartwrights had to wait a while but finally it was their turn.

“And what can I do for you?”, asked Paul.

“I am already 2 months late and since a week or 3 very sick and tired”, said Mary.

“just go lie down on the examining table”, said Paul.

Mary did that and got examined.

“I want that you do a pregnancy test for the security”, said the doctor.

So said, so done.

“Well Adam and Mary, I may congratulate you with the arrival of your first baby. The little one will be expected in

December”, said Paul.

“Thanks Paul”, Adam said smiling.

They went outside again.

By the car Adam took again Mary into his arms and kissed her of happiness.

After the kiss Mary said, “What great. A baby.”

“We do get a boy anyway”, said Adam.

“It can also be a girl”, his wife answered while they both got in.

Arrived at home the father of Adam and the father-in-law of Mary, Ben Cartwright, was waiting for them already.

“Adam Cartwright! I thought that you had said that you would be away only a short time. It became 3 ½ hours. Do you have an explanation for that?”, asked Ben.

“I have that and a good one too. Just come inside and sit down”, the eldest Cartwright boy said.

That happened and Ben looked at them questionable.

“In December another chair has to be set at the table”, said Adam.

“Why just in December?”, Ben asked amazed.

“Because then your grandchild is born. Our baby”, said Mary.

Suddenly Ben understood it and began to smile.

“What a good news. You bet that the baby will come home in a good and warm home”, said the rancher.

From then on they had to keep in account with the next generation Cartwright which was on the way.
