It was a quiet day at the Ponderosa, the ranch of the Cartwrights. Only the children of Adam and Sally were at home with their parents. The twins (Mitch and Pam) had the assignment to look after their little sisters six year old Lisa and the 11 month old Rose.
“How must we keep those two little tots busy?”, asked Mitch.
“We can read to them”, said Pam.
“Then they think that they must go to bed”, answered her brother.
Pam agreed with it. Mitch thought deep for a moment and had then a good idea.
“Rose can already stand so why don’t we learn her how to walk?”, he asked.
“Alright. Lisa, you go to stand by the chair of grandpa’s”, said Pam.
Lisa went to stand by the red chair of Ben Cartwright. Pam went to sit down by the blue chair and Mitch took pity on the youngest. Rose laughed a lot just like the others did too.
“Rose, you are going to learn something important now”, said Mitch.
He held her tight and together they walked past the settee and the salon table. Rose almost fell a few times but got well received by her brother.
After a few times Mitch said to his youngest little sister, “Now you are trying it alone.”
He put her at the table and let her loose. Carefully Rose walked past the table and got received by Pam.
“Now back to Mitch”, said Pam.
She turned Rose and the girl walked to her brother. Now she walked alone. Rose walked straight through to Lisa.
After a few almost falls the youngest daughter of Adam and Sally could walk alone too.
“Pam, you fetch daddy and Lisa makes sure that mom comes here”, said Mitch.
The girls went to get their parents.
In the kitchen said Lisa, “Mom, you must come along at once!”
Sally dried her hands and went straight along to the living room where Mitch sat with Rose in the red chair.
Meanwhile Pam had ran to Adam. He was busy at the barn.
“Daddy, you must come because something has happened in the house”, she said gasping.
Adam sighed deep and looked at his eldest daughter.
“As long as it is nothing bad”, he said worried.
“Just come on”, Pam said impatient.
Adam came along but he also didn’t understand a thing of it, just like his wife.
“Why did we have to come?”, asked Adam.
“Both go stand by the stairs”, said Mitch.
They did that.
“Rose, show daddy and mom what you have learned”, Mitch said to his little sister.
He put her down and the little one walked proud to her parents. Adam received her and hugged her loving full but Sally did that too.
“We didn’t know how we had to keep them busy so we decided to learn Rose how to walk”, said Pam.
“It was my idea”, reacted Mitch.
“It is very nice that Rose now can walk too but that does mean that we must keep a close and better eye on her. And that goes also for you”, said Adam.
The twins promised that.
And again a new period had started for the Cartwrights.
