Taiwanese Loanwords Influenced by Japan

Abstract

This study is about Japanese word exists in Taiwanese Hokkien. Many elder Taiwanese not only speak Taiwanese Hokkien, but also speak Japanese fluently.

And there have many Hokkien’s words come from Japan. In the beginning, we explain the meaning of loanword. Second, we depend on Taiwan’s history background to discover Japan’s influence to Taiwan. Then, we provide some example of loanwords to support our ideas, because many people don’t know the existence of loanwords. We always use those words in our daily life.
