The Most Regretful Thing I Have Ever Done

Natalie Kuo

Everyone must have felt regretful about something they did wrong before, and so have I. After this event, I reflected on myself and improved my attitude to make myself better. Let me explain the process.

When I was a senior in high school, I had really poor grades then. My parents also gradually found that my academic performance was dissatisfying. One day they came to my room and said the words pleasantly but sternly, " Do you want to try to take extra lessons in cram school? We hope you can find the way to improve your grades. Give it a try." I guessed my parents must have noticed my ineffectiveness in studying, and then they came up with the method which might solve my problem. As a result, I accepted their proposal -- going to cram school to get better tutorial.

At first, I had difficulties catching up with the teacher's teaching, and it really made me feel upset then. However, the teacher asked me to take extra lessons after school. She considered that it could let me learn much faster. So I went to cram school and accepted extra guidance every day at that time. It really made me exhausted, but in the meantime I hoped this approach could be effective.

After making a lot of efforts, I made progress gradually. My grades became better, and I even got the scholarship. How glad I was! Nevertheless, I began to choose not to go to cram school often. I considered that I didn't need to spend much time getting tutorial anymore. I could study on my own. In order to have much time to play with my friends, I even cut the class. However, tragedy struck me. My grades went down again and declined seriously. I realized the severity of my condition. The teacher told my parents about my rebellious behaviors, including cutting classes. They reprimanded me severely, and said, “We have spent lots of time and money helping you improve your grade, and you dared to cut classes and give up learning. You should reflect on yourself thoroughly!"

After this experience, I introspected myself for a long period of time. I went back to cram school again, and studied much harder than ever before. My prior attitude was ridiculously wrong. The people who were concerned about me hoped I could own a better grade and confidence; however, I chose to give up! Due to this lesson, I realized what I had done before was incorrect and I swore to myself that I would not make the same mistake twice.
