The Effects of Insomnia

     People who have difficulties or problems are constantly under pressure. Under these circumstances and other reasons, they might be sick and even suffer from insomnia. People who got insomnia could not have an adequate amount of sleep. These people usually must deal with the lack of sleep during a period of time and their first desire would be falling asleep immediately. Sometimes, insomnia could last days, weeks, and even months. It seems that insomnia comes in many forms and worries people of all ages. Unfortunately, it also happens to me and changes my life. Insomnia has affected me on three aspects—my studying, my physical condition, and my mental health.

     The first bad effect insomnia on me is its influencing my studying. If I suffer from insomnia, I would be absent-minded in class. With insufficient sleep, I cannot focus on what the teacher says and may want to sleep. Consequently, I might fail the course because of insomnia. It’s really terrible! Owing to the lack of learning in class, I need to spend more time studying, which is a waste of time. On the other hand, if I can develop some good habits, I would sleep well and would not get sick easily. And I don’t need to spend extra time on studying when I can focus well in class.

     The second effect is on my physical condition. People who suffer from insomnia do not sleep well at night. And thus, they may feel tired during the day. Especially, I would have a headache if I didn’t sleep well at night. I felt really uncomfortable and did not want to do anything when I got a headache. What is worse, if my insomnia became too frequent, I might feel like vomiting.

     The last effect is causing mental discomfort, which is also the most serious one for me. If I couldn’t sleep, I would be in a bad mood and would feel depressed. Moreover, I would not be patient with anything and even do something bad on my friends such as yelling at them, etc. I think the most terrible symptom of insomnia is anxiety. Insomnia could make me feel anxious, and I’ll be worried about many things constantly. As a result, I could not finish everything well due to my anxiety. In general, insomnia could be damaging to the sufferer.

     In sum, insomnia has made a great impact on my life, and specifically, insomnia has influenced me in three ways: the studying, my physical condition, and my mental health. Therefore, I must get more serious on this disorder. I should keep a regular sleep schedule and develop good sleep habits in order to reduce the probability of getting insomnia.
