Good Neighbor

  A neighbor can influence you directly or indirectly; therefore, a good neighbor is very important. In the dictionary, a good neighbor is marked by friendship, cooperation, and non interference in the internal affairs. Likewise, in my opinion, there are three things that a good neighbor needs: civism, helpfulness, and reliability.

     Firstly, a good neighbor has civism. Nowadays, most people live in the apartment with others, and the maintenance of the environment has to depend on everybody’s cooperation. If the neighbor acts without civism, the environment will be very dirty. By contrast, a good neighbor always keeps the environment clean. For example, one of my friends told me that her neighbors are very civic, their environment is comfortable and beautiful, and they don’t have to pay extra money to hire someone to clean it. Because all of the neighbors are concerned about the environment, they won’t do the things that will dirty it.

     Secondly, a good neighbor is helpful. There is a saying, “Distant kinsmen mean less than close neighbors,” which means a good neighbor is more important than a sibling far away. That is true, especially when you need a help. A good neighbor is willing to look after your house when you are not at home. For example, one of my friends told me that her neighbor was very enthusiastic about everything around her. Once they went on a vacation for three days, and there was a strange guy often hovering in front of their house and it seemed that the guy was looking for an opportunity to do something bad. Fortunately, the enthusiastic neighbor called the police when the guy wanted to break the door, helping keep her house safe.

     Thirdly, a good neighbor is reliable. There is nothing worse than you can’t trust your neighbor. For instance, if your neighbor is an ex-prisoner, how dare you associate with him or her? If your neighbor is an alcoholic, how dare you let him or her look after your children when you have to go out for something important? If your neighbor is a peppery person, how dare you communicate with him or her? So, a reliable neighbor is very necessary. 

     I think a good neighbor with all of the above three features is very difficult to find. Fortunately, my next-door neighbors are very perfect and wonderful. They have all the characteristics I mentioned above, so I am a lucky person to live with them in the same apartment.
