A Special Basketball Competition

Teddy

I'll never forget the day I played in a special basketball competition. In the basketball competition, my ankle fractured. Honestly, I wondered why the basketball competition had been played so intensely that led to my injury. The probability of its occurrence is too low, and this kind of thing seems to appear only in the movie scene. The competition was over in a matter of moments, but the memory of it is imprinted forever in my mind.

That day was the final of our competition and whether we could get the first prize or not depended on it. My teammates and I arrived at the playing court early. We limbered up before the game with a feeling of excitement. The competition started after a long loud whistle of beginning. In the first half of the game, we cooperated with tacit understanding and passed the ball skillfully. However, the scores between the two teams were always close because we were well-matched in strength. With a three-point difference, the first half of the competition was in a very tense situation.

In a long whistle, the second half of the race began. We adjusted the strategy and played slowly and surely to the coach's suggestion and strove to pull away the scores. We struggled and made a good defense. Gradually we scored the goals. The rivals began to fret and we saw the dawn of victory. At the critical moment of the competition, I fell to the ground with a crisp sound of the break of my ankle while grabbing the backboard and being hit by an opposing player. A terrible pain suddenly struck me. I could barely breathe because of the pain. And I could hardly stand, with my ankle being inflamed red and swollen with a big bag visible to the naked eyes. The doctor immediately gave me an emergency treatment and diagnosed my ankle fractured. He suggested that I went to the hospital for urgent treatment right away. At that moment, the sun shone on me and I glimpsed the scoreboard thinking if we could score more goals, we would win. And if I quit in the middle of the game, our team might not have the chance to win first prize. Thus, I stood up slowly, bearing the great pain, and continued to play.

It was only 10 minutes from the end of the competition. I kept running and shooting. My teammates also struggled hard, being moved by my spirit. Time was ticking. When I could hardly endure the pain, the whistle sounded and the competition was over. We won for a five-point gap. We won!We screamed and hugged. We finally won!

After experiencing this basketball competition, I learned a lot from it. Although I broke a bone in my ankle, I had no regrets struggling and fighting for the purpose of our collective honor and team spirit. In our life, there are always some causes and spirits that are bigger than ourselves. I believe that the revelations of them will shine like stars in people's hearts, just like they did in mine.
