The People on the Red 5 Bus

Eva Lai

Every day I go to Chinese Culture University by taking the bus Red 5. That is the best and the most convenient way for me to go to school. The destination of the Red 5 bus is Yangming Mountain. And my school is also located on Yangming Mountain. I think that is the reason why this bus is always crowded. According to my observation, the people on the Red 5 bus can be classified based on what they are. They are students, travelers ,and workers.

Students are the largest group on the bus Red 5. There are at least five schools on the way to Yangming Mountain. These students wear uniforms except college students, so they are easy to recognize. Most of college students wear fashionable clothes and dress up well. Another way to identify them is based on what they talk about. They talk about what they learn in the class or what activities they have. And they are the youngest people on the bus.

Travelers are fewer than the students. Most of them are adults or old people. The destination of the Red 5 bus is near Yangmingshan National Park. That’s why there are many travelers on the bus, especially in spring and winter. They enjoy the beautiful flowers in spring and have hot spring in winter. On the other hand, in summer and autumn they go mountain climbing. They wear sportswear and carry equipment for mountaineering.

Workers are the fewest in number when compared to the students and the travelers. They wear formal clothes and carry briefcases. They don’t talk on the bus unless they meet their friends. They talk about what they are going to do or what happened in the company. Many of them get off around National Security Bureau, ROC. Because they walk toward the direction to it, I know that they are workers.

The inhabitants of Yangming Mountain seldom take Red 5 bus. I seldom see them. Maybe most of them drive cars. So, most people on the bus are students, travelers and workers. They are recognizable because they share some distinctive characteristics.
