The Traditional Chinese Restaurant and the Western Fast Food Restaurant

In the world of competition, people are having enormous pressure. One of the ways to release the strain is eating. There is no doubt that I am the person who likes to use this kind of way to ease up myself. Tasting delicacies is absolutely a good therapy. I want to give an example on two restaurants that I usually go to and they also represent the traditional Chinese Restaurant and the Western fast food restaurant. One is called South-North Building (南北樓) which is in Chinese style and the other is Kentucky Fried Chicken which is in Western fast food style. Both of them have their charming attractions and unique ways of cooking.

The first striking difference is cooking ways. South-North Building is a traditional Chinese restaurant whose menu has probably over 70 main dishes and all the favorites of Chinese food lovers are in it, including sweet and sour chicken, sesame beef, roast pork with snow peas, shrimp with lobster sauce and many more. Then we may discover that the common preparation technique of Chinese food is stir frying, steaming and braising. By contrast, Kentucky Fried Chicken is a fast food restaurant that sells chicken pieces, wraps, hamburgers and French fries. While its primary focus is fried chicken, KFC also offers a line of grilled and roasted chicken products, side dishes and desserts. Obviously, the foods they provide are so-called junk food due to the fact that its main cooking way is frying. Nevertheless, fried food tastes unbelievably good.

The second difference is the speed of serving in these two restaurants. We have to be taken order by the server after we decide which dishes we like from the menu and wait for a long time until the cuisine is served in South-North Building. But in KFC, we just need to order the meal from a counter by waiting for a while and then we can get our order of tasty food. The reason why we don’t have to wait so long is that all the food served in the fast food restaurants like KFC can be prepared and served very quickly.

Last but not least, the qualities of service in these two restaurants are also different. In South-North Building, various dishes are served to the customers’ table by servers. On the contrary, KFC uses counter service in which the customer generally pays before having the food or drinks. Honestly, I wonder why South-North Building’s service is so horrible. Every server doesn’t wear a smile on their face and seems indifferent about the job. They do not serve customers as well as KFC’s do. I hold an opinion that table service must be better quality than counter service. But I find that the manner and the attitude of the server are crucial for the quality of the service.

I like both South-North Building and KFC, even though they are different in many ways. There is no doubt that their foods all taste fantastic!
