E-buses vs. Diesel Buses

Abby Yeh

As the rising awareness of environment protection, people started to study and create renewable things for sustainable development and environmental protection. This idea has already been put into practice in our everyday life. An e-bus is a good example. The following will show that e-buses and diesel buses are different in the aspects of noise, carbon emissions, and renewable energy.

First, e-buses are less noisy than diesel buses when they are on the road. Compared with the general diesel-fueled buses, the e-buses are characterized by no engines. The batteries inside the e-buses can provide power and then transmit the power to the motors so that they can move. Besides, there is no sound in this process and that is the reason why e-buses are less noisy than diesel buses when they are moving.

Second, the carbon emissions of e-buses are less than that of diesel buses. Because e-buses move with the power from batteries, they will not produce carbon dioxide that causes air pollution. On the contrary, a liter of gasoline for a diesel bus can produce two kilograms of carbon dioxide; for one year the diesel bus will accumulate about seventy tons of carbon dioxide. That is, the use of e-buses not only can substantially reduce carbon emissions but is equivalent to planting 14,000 trees in the city.

Third, e-buses are environmentally friendlier than diesel buses. The batteries used in e-buses are rare earth lithium yttrium batteries, and they are stable and clean. In addition, those batteries can be recycled so e-buses will not harm the environment a lot. However, diesel fuel is a product of liquid oil fuel after oil refining, so it is not recyclable and it also exhausts much toxic gas into the air.

In conclusion, e-buses are less noisy, less polluting and more environmentally friendly than diesel buses. Although the cost of e-buses is higher than that of traditional buses, I think there are more advantages of e-buses than diesel buses. I hope that e-buses can popularize one day.
