The Terrible Experience in Yangmingshan

Emily Lin

To me, if the weather of Yangmingshan is sunny and clear, it is a very wonderful place. However, if the weather of Yangmingshan is cloudy and rainy, it is a nightmare for everybody. During the first strong typhoon last year when I was a freshman, my roommate and I determined to go shopping after class. Although the sky was covered with thick clouds, we took the bus and left for downtown. When we arrived at Hsimending(西門町), the weather was good. My roommate and I felt very happy and passed in and out every shop. When the moon came out, we took the bus to go back to Yangmingshan. As the bus drove into the Yangmingshan, it started to rain. I gradually felt nervous and worried about it. Finally, we got off the bus. As soon as we opened our umbrella, it was blown by the violent wind. It made us very angry that our umbrella was broken and our bodies were drenched. When we rushed into the shelter, our hair was dripping wet, we were really soaking. We went to buy the raincoat and started to walk. However, the wind was so violent that we couldn’t move. Besides, my raincoat was torn apart and became useless. After arriving at the convenience store, located in front of the Hsun Tzu Avenue (荀子大道), I saw the rainwater sluice from the high like a small waterfall. This scenery with the yellow street lights was like a background of a horror movie. It really made us afraid. My roommate and I started to run until we arrived at the dormitory, having difficulty catching our breath and adjusting our mood. With this terrible experience, we realized that we cannot go out when the typhoon comes. It power makes me tremble out of fear.
