Luck or Opportunity

A lot of people confuse luck and opportunity, and I was one of them. When I saw the statement, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity,” I was totally puzzled. But now, after having thought of this issue for a long time, I will say that I disagree with the idea, “Luck is a matter of preparation meeting opportunity,” stated by Oprah Winfrey.

In fact, I don’t believe there is such a thing called “luck.” You might argue with me, “but some people were born in the rich family; they are luckier than people who were born in the poor family.” I will say, I don’t agree that if one is richer means one is luckier. I saw a lot of rich people spend all their life fighting for money; they are slaves of money and their own greed. In my opinion, they are not lucky at all. For example,One of my friend’s friends was born in an extremely rich family; he is young and handsome, and he is the youngest vice professor of NTU. He earns 440 thousand dollars per month; moreover, he can get his 1 billion dollars from his family whenever he wants. Wow, how lucky he is! But the fact is, he doesn’t know where he lives because he has a driver and bodyguards since he was young; he doesn’t know how to wash the dishes because servants will do everything for him. Once he misused sugar as salt when he was cooking his very first fried eggs. Basically, he is a moron in life. His thinking is superficial; He only speaks to people who are from high-position or who are good-looking. I feel sorry for him, because he was trapped in his shallow point of view and he is proud of it.

On the other hand, I believe in destiny. God is fair to everyone; God will give us several opportunities in our life for us to achieve our mission.

I believe everyone who comes to this planet has his or her own mission, and we are all provided several opportunities to accomplish the mission. It is our destiny to meet opportunity. The point is, are we well prepared to grab this opportunity, a chance to grow and shine, or not.

As I said, I don’t believe in luck, if there is such a thing called “luck,” it is a poor guide to success. (When I speak about success, I don’t mean getting rich or being famous.) It will make us fly up to the sky first and kick us down to the earth later. Opportunity does come; if we prepare ourselves for it, we succeed. This is not because we are lucky, but because we strive hard for it and gain the success by our efforts.
