Gruppy

“Strawberry Generation” describes someone who cannot sustain stress, but this word is only used in Taiwan. In America there is a whole new generation of people living life just like they’re fresh out of college. Actually, they have graduated from colleges for many years. And Americans call them “gruppies” or “grups.” According to New York magazine, gruppies increase every year. Those people are similar to strawberry generation, but there are still some differences between them.

Gruppies’ ages are about thirty to forty years old. In this period of time, people should be very independent. However, gruppies usually escape from stress. When they face a trouble, they do not deal with it, and even ignore it. In my opinion, gruppies have been spoiled by their parents. Therefore, gruppies always think their parents would help them do everything. Recently, it is a big problem in society.

Gruppies tend to dress themselves as teenagers. Most people in thirties’ wear formal clothes, but gruppies like to wear leisure clothes and fashionable apparels. Sometimes they walk on the street with walkmans. Therefore, people cannot identify if the person is in twenties’ or thirties’. This shows gruppies refuse to grow up. Thus, they choose to disguise themselves, and persuade themselves that they are still young.

The most important characteristic of gruppies is they do not have stable jobs. They change their jobs frequently. And they have lots of excuses to explain why they quit their jobs. The most common excuse is the salary and welfare are not good at all. In fact, they just want to play and have fun. They have no sense of responsibility. It makes some bosses unable to trust their employees because their employees may just work a year or half a year.

Gruppies cannot endure stress, dress like teenagers, and have no stable jobs. Now we can see many gruppies around us, but we cannot be one of them in our future. After all, we have no choice but to face reality.
