Types of Shoppers

Cindy Chen

Shopping is an entertainment for many people. Everyone needs to buy goods, so everyone is a shopper. Some people are impulsive in buying things if they see something they really like. And according to my observation there are three main types of shoppers.

The first type of shoppers is shopaholics that always buy things without thinking carefully. They buy something just because they want it not because they need it. Although they do not need anything, they still buy something, even just a pencil. I heard a young lady who is the daughter of an enterpriser say on TV that she must buy something before she goes home. She did not go out because she feared she would buy things. Finally, she found a way to control herself – buying stationery. This good way makes her able to control a little of her impulse.

The second type of shoppers is stingy shoppers. Most of them are misers. They always do window shopping. They seldom buy things for entertainment or for rewarding themselves. In the clothes shop, they may try on many different clothes to find out what they really like but they would think a long time. When they see the price tag they may think more time. Every additional expense for them is luxury. They are the least buying shoppers in these three types.

The third type of shoppers is rational shoppers that would think carefully before they buy. Generally, there are more rational shoppers than the other two types. They go shopping because they want to buy something they need. They are not like shopaholics that would buy things just for buying things. They are not like stingy shoppers who just do window shopping. And sometimes they buy things not just because they need them, but because they like them or they want to reward themselves.

I want to be the third type of shopper – the rational shopper. If we are not a rich person, being a shopaholic is a horrible thing because we have no money to support ourselves. Sometimes buying goods in a moderate way is not waste but an investment. So, what kind of shopper are you?
