Introduction

Nicotine-based, inhaled products (most commonly found in the form of cigarettes) are some of the most widespread, legalized and regulated drugs in the world. While currently a predominantly developing-world problem, developed nations continue to also encounter recurring health issues arising from nicotine addiction in their populaces. Smoking is intimately related to respiratory diseases as well as various forms of cancer. Despite this, a large percentage of the global population continues to smoke despite programs to increase public awareness as to the negative impact on health.

The intent of this research document is to provide a concise and easy to understand summary of one of the primary mechanisms by which nicotine is delivered into human beings, what effects smoking has on individuals, as well as the legal and social repercussions of the phenomenon known as smoking.
