The movie industry has witnessed boom in recent years. Delighted with such a sufficient supply of nice motion pictures, the audiences are thankful for the efforts made by film crews. Among these popular products, serious movies and entertaining movies are the most influential. These two kinds of movies bring the audience totally different sensory experiences and spiritual exploration.

Primarily, serious movies can enrich people’s inner world. A meaningful serious movie can provide humans with food for thought, and it encourages the audience to pay attention to some social problems or even human philosophy which has a positive significance. One example is a martial theme movie I saw last month entitled Fury. The background of the story is at the end of the World War II. In the movie, a young soldier experienced the lost of his lover and comrades in arms. The extremely cruel plots may cause the reflection of the viewer easily that peace can be precious and wars should be avoided or it can be the sorrow of the whole mankind. Furthermore, the social and historical background of serious movies provides people with an opportunity to learn a large amount of knowledge. Serious movies can always guide audience psychologically to learn about the reality and detail of our society, history or even sense of morality. The Imitation Game, a popular movie presents the story how the father of the computer, Aaron Turing, cracked the military code and helped the English to win the war against the German. The histories of the English intelligence bureau were vividly shown on the screen. The legendary life of Turing and the historical event also left the audience a profound impression. As demonstrated, serious movies have worthy values to be treasured in memory and have a long influence. These kinds of movies can always reflect how the director thought and what the people preferred in a special period, which can provide us a large amount of materials to understand the past days.

On the other hand, entertaining movies are quite different things. To begin with, entertaining movies can improve people’s mood and attitude to life. People nowadays have to through some ways to release the pressure from intense work or social life. It has already been a popular way to buy a ticket of a comic or a Hollywood science fiction movie to get relaxation and amusement. The magnificent set of scene and stage or the exaggerate show of the players can always make audiences at ease. Moreover, entertaining movies can bring the audience the experience of the newest visual science. Last summer Iron Man III raged the booking office and harvested countless fans for its unprecedented special effects. The movie was on view together with 3D, 4D and IMAX, and it could be considered as a renovation of the modern entertainment films. Undeniably, entertaining movies also have their special values of reflecting the state-of-the-art technology in modern times. To watch the entertaining movies of different periods, we may find that people’s appreciation of the beauty are changing with the development of the arts & entertainment market.

All in all, both of these movies are playing important roles in our daily life. Good movies are cherished as treasures which can be appreciated for many times. Each viewing can bring about fresh thoughts and deeper understanding. It’s for sure that the directors and actors will continue their efforts of creating more valuable works.
