Choosing a Rewarding Occupation

Ada Li

Many of us were asked to write a composition on the topic “My Dream” when we were children. Have we changed our dreams after ten years? I think there are differences between a dream and an occupation. Maybe we choose an occupation according to realistic conditions. But if we can choose a job that can let us earn a living and realize our dream simultaneously, it would be a rewarding occupation.

I remember I wanted to be a scientist when I was nine years old. At that time, I wanted to make the world better. Therefore, I wanted to invent a creature which could eat the mass trash to reduce the damage to the globe. It is good that we can regard protecting the globe as our responsibility, butI found I was not interested in the subject of science.

Later, I wanted to be a translator when I became a college student. I found I like to talk very much. And because my parents are disabled in listening and talking, I thought I should use my month more for them and be a bridge of communicating between different kinds of people.

In addition, my rewarding occupation must bring me sufficient financial reward. I want to enjoy life and be a happy girl. Maybe I am too materialistic, and I think money is really important in this society. Nevertheless, to work just for money seems not enough for a meaningful life.

Choosing a rewarding occupation depends on personal aptitudes and beliefs. I am still not sure what my aptitudes for work are, but I will choose an occupation according to my creed. That is to be able to earn a living and realize my dream at the same time.
