How to Play Billiards

Beatrice Lai

I couldn’t play billiards before entering the university. But now, I can play billiards well and my skill is better than before. There are some skills to share with people who want to learn how to play billiards.

First, no matter what things you want to do, preparing a good tool is the most important thing. Before you play billiards, you must choose a straight pole. You can put your pole on the pool table and push it. If your pole rolls fluently, it means that it is straight and good. The second thing players have to prepare is a chalk which increases the friction of the head of the pole. A chalk looks like a cube sugar, but its color is blue. After a player hits a ball, the pole has to be rubbed against a chalk. It is an important step for players, because in this way poles won’t become slippery.

Next is to have a right posture. Stand toward northeast and bend down. Stretch out your left hand and make a circle with thumb and forefinger. Then put the circle on the middle finger. The circle can restrict the moving area of the pole. The pole can’t shake too much before you play a ball. When you bend down, your eyes, shoulders, the elbow of right hand and the pole have to be in alignment.

Finally, it is important to concentrate and remain calm. When you are able to concentrate and keep calm, you can play balls steadily. You couldn’t be disturbed by the environment and the grade. It is the most difficult thing to do.

Playing billiards is not an easy exercise. Players have to be patient doing it. If players can follow the above steps, they will have a good start.
