Should College Students Have Part-time Jobs?

Nowadays, many college students have part-time jobs. Some parents do not allow their kids to have a part-time job. They want their kids to just focus on their studies. As to me, I prefer to have a part-time job. Doing a part time job, we have the chance to know how to be a good employee and colleague, find which career suits us, and learn to be more independent.

Doing the job, we have the chance to know how to be a good employee and colleague. In the work place, we will meet many people of different ages coming from different places. If we have a part-time job before graduating, we can learn to get along with our coworkers even when we are college students. Also, we can train ourselves to work under pressure to fulfill the boss’ request. However, if we do not have a part-time job, we have no chance to learn to handle all the things that we are likely to encounter when we join the work market after we graduate from school.

We can also find which career suits us by doing the part time job. Many people do not know what they really like and want to do. By doing different kinds of jobs, they can try different work. And thus, we can

have a better understanding of what kind of job we want to do in the future. By contrast, if college students do not have a part-time job, they have no chance to explore various possibilities for their future jobs.

We will become more independent by working. Because of the job, we do not ask for money from our parents. Also, we learn to manage finances by ourselves. We can make more money and spend less in the daily life. And we have to be responsible for ourselves. But if we have no part-time job, we have no chance to learn to manage our money. We will have no concept of money because our parents will give us money. That is, without income, we may not be able to develop the right sense of money.

After considering whether college students should have part-time jobs, I reckon to have a part-time job is better. I have a part-time job now. The experience is very precious. It makes my college life more colorful. In addition, I learn to deal with problems with customers. Most importantly, I have become more mature and independent.
