The Warrior

Edith Chen

If you look up the dictionary for the word “warrior” you will find the definition shows that a warrior is a person who is engaged in warfare, but this is the normal definition from the dictionary. In my opinion, a warrior is a man with great bravery to face any kind of situations, or a person who fights for his or her miserable destiny just like the armies in the poem The Charge of the Light Brigade, or the surviving Jews in the Massacre. However, these are the typical definitions of the traditional warrior in the world or history. Now, I want to give the new definition to another kind of warrior — the warriors in the class.

The Warriors in the class is a new usage in our class. When you hear about this term, you may regard it as a positive term for the students at very beginning. However, if you try to figure out the true meaning of this term, you will find that the Warriors in the class is an ironic term used to describe the college students who are brave enough to do anything for challenging their credit courses. Sometimes, they do not intend to be a warrior, but all the time, they have no choice but to be one.

There are four characteristics of the student Warriors to show that they cannot follow what teachers want them to do easily. First, the Warriors cannot come to class frequently because they always oversleep when they have the class in the morning, and it is caused by staying up late the night before. Some of them stay up late for doing their strenuous assignments, but others stay up late for playing online games!

Second, the Warriors cannot hand in the assignment on time because they always put off doing their homework. The major reason that the Warriors procrastinate doing their assignments is that they have already owed too many assignments to their teachers, and they do not know how to start their assignments which pile up like the mountain. Therefore, some of them choose to pretend that they just forget the deadline of the assignments and keep procrastinating, but others choose to face their destiny even though they have already been a procrastinator.

Third, the Warriors also show their characteristic feature when they come to class, which is they cannot keep themselves awake during the whole class. Without a doubt, it is certainly caused by feeling exhausted due to staying up late the night before. The final characteristic is that some Warriors never come to class, but in the special moment they will suddenly appear. For example, the Warriors come to class when classmates tell them the teacher is going to give a test on the week.

This term is a usage only for our class, and some students in our class have been called by this name. According to the behavior they have, we can make the variation on the title. We can use “the Little Warriors” to describe the one who seldom procrastinates their homework or misses classes, and we can use “the Leader of the Warriors” to describe the one who usually forgets to hand in their assignments and falls asleep in the class. Why do we call them Warriors? The main reason is that they do what a good student dare not do. The Warriors know that if they do not hand in homework on time, come to class late, or fall asleep in the class, they will be targeted by the teacher, and that will affect the grade of their subjects, but they still do it as they like. It is a brave deed, for it is not something normal students dare do

Finally, I have to admit that I am a little Warrior in the group of The Warriors. And, I know that this is not a good behavior for a student. For this reason, I will improve myself to get on the right track, and I believe that sooner or later I will depart from the group of The Warriors.
