Should Cellphones Be Prohibited in the Classroom

Nowadays, more and more people own a smart phone, especially for students. In Taiwan, many students don’t pay attention to the teacher because they are doing other things like reading novels or comic books, sleeping, and the most common, using cellphones. Therefore, a question has been discussed for a while. Should cellphones be prohibited in the classroom?

Most people take that question very seriously. Many people think that students should not bring their cellphones to the classroom, even to school. Some schools still prohibit students to bring cellphones in order to prevent them from using cellphones in class. There is a good reason for cellphones to be prohibited in the classroom. The reason is that students will be distracted by cellphones when a teacher is teaching something very important. Students have their duty to pay attention to and learn something from teachers. That is what a student should do.

In my opinion, cellphones don’t need to be prohibited in the classroom. The issue is that students should not use cellphones when the teacher is teaching. However, students can still use their cellphones in the break time. Students don’t always play games with their cellphones. They would also search information online with cellphones, and through searching information, students might learn something. They might even ask teachers some question about the information online.
