Types of Part-time Jobs Teenagers Do

Nowadays, more and more teenagers have part-time jobs. They do part-time jobs for different reasons. Most of these teenage part-timers are college students. They take advantage of their free time to work as part-timers. There are varieties of part-time jobs that teenagers can choose. I separate their purposes of doing part-time jobs into three categories: earning money, getting work experience, and learning something.

The first group is the teenage part-timers who are only interested in earning money. This type of part-timers may earn money to afford their living cost. Their family may be poor, so they need to earn some money to share their parents’ burden. This group of part-timers may not take interest in their jobs. They work for money.

The purpose of another group of teenage part-timers is to find out which jobs are proper for them to do. This type of part-timers may have little idea about what kinds of job are suitable for them, so they do different part-time jobs to find the best job for themselves. They may need to find out which jobs are the best for them by experiencing different kinds of jobs. Take students in university for example; after graduating from college, most of them may hardly know what kinds of jobs they really want to do. In order to solve this problem, they do different sorts of part-time jobs and figure out which area of jobs they are really interested in.

The third, and I believe the best, type of teenage part-timers is the ones who want to learn something from their part-time jobs. This type of part-timers may know what they want to do in the future and they look for similar part-time jobs to gain some experience. For example, someone wants to be an English teacher in the future, and he or she may work as an English teaching assistant at cram school to learn some experience. With this working experience, the student may be better equipped for the job than people who don’t have any experience in teaching English.

There are many different kinds of part-time jobs, and teenagers may choose their jobs with different purposes. In my opinion, people who want to learn something from their part-time jobs should benefit the most. With the working experience, they can learn more things and they can have a chance to enhance their working abilities.
