Homebody

Blythe

Homebody is a male or female whose life and interests are centered on the home. Many homebodies are crazy about animations, comics, televisions, and computer games. They are sometimes called nerds, e.g., anime nerds, video game nerds, or computer nerds. They share many characteristics. For example, they prefer staying at the home; they are not good at words; they don’t have the charm for the opposite sex; their appearances are slovenly. Homebodies have some problems in daily habits, physical health, and social relationship.

Homebodies have some characteristic daily habits in different aspects: eating, clothing, housing, transportation, education, and entertainment. They always eat unhealthful instant noodles. They go out in slovenly clothes. They can’t tidy up their dirty rooms because they focus only on the computer. If it is not necessary, they don’t go too far away from home. They always go to convenience stores in slippers. And they concentrate their attention on the Internet anytime even before dawn instead of their studies.

With the above living habits, homebodies are likely to suffer from some physical disorders or diseases. They become pear-shaped due to irregular and unhealthful diets. They always stay up because they are addicted to the Internet and forget the time to sleep. Thus, they may have some pimples on their face, and often have a headache or a bad stomach. Even worse, a homebody may suffer from osteoporosis because he or she doesn’t like to exercise, seldom go out to walk, and bask in the sun. In addition, homebodies tend to suffer from hypertension due to sitting for a long time. Sitting for a long time also slows the blood circulation, which reduces the metabolism of the body, causing the overweight problem.

Homebodies like to discuss comics, animations, and computer games with cyber friends in the fictitious world, but they are less capable of making friends in meatspace. They seal their world completely, and don’t contact with strangers. They go to school without chatting with their classmates. Furthermore, they lack self-confidence. They are afraid of meeting people in real life. On the other hand, they enjoy discussing everything and establishing cyber relations on the Internet. They like to chat with cyber friends and can be unrestrained with people they meet online because they don’t need to expose their real identities in the Internet world. Actually, they enjoy being alone and communicating with anyone who shares the common interest online.

In conclusion, surfing the Net at home is the focus of life for homebodies, and it causes bad qualities of life, some health problems, and bad interpersonal relationship. Homebodies need to go out of their world. I believe that they may become more confident and healthier, if they can go out of the fictitious world, take more exercise, have neat dresses, and make new friends.
