Attack of Smartphones

Blythe

More and more people use smartphones recently. My friends also switch from the old cell phone to the smartphone. The smartphone has many functions. For example, people can contact friends from afar immediately, they can send messages for free, they can play a great number of games when they are waiting for the bus, they can take pretty pictures when going hiking or having a tea time, they can look for any information anytime, and so on. The smartphone provides many functions on the surface, but on the other hand, it has some demerits in actuality.

One of the disadvantages is students always play the games on their smartphones. Even when they are in bed, they play games for one or two hours. Playing games can pass time, but it wastes more time and affects the time for rest actually. I think students should take advantage of odd time to study or take a break. In this way they can restore their energy to do more important things.

Second, the smartphone is too convenient for students to focus on their lessons. Students like to use their smartphones in the class or in the speech. It is not polite to the teachers and is a waste of precious learning time. I think that students should study instead of spending too much time on their smartphones.

Third, people send some messages by texting, but they are usually short sentences with only three to five letters that don’t have any emotion. Many people slip their fingertips on the smartphone every now and then during the meal, which thus becomes silent and cold. That is harmful to their relationship. In addition, after the smartphone intruded into our life, fewer and fewer people can leave it any more. Indeed, people can contact friends from afar immediately, but they are not able to focus on the person sitting face to face with them.

In conclusion, the smartphone is not all great or bad. It has many conveniences, and people need to avoid its disadvantages. The problems are serious, so someone suggests that participants pile together their cell phones on the dinner table. The first person takes up the phone will treat everyone to beverages as punishment. In my opinion, people should play games less often, so they can sleep or do anything that is more meaningful, and they should go to bed early. The smartphone is just a tool, not the entire life. People should keep its conveniences and reduce its negative impacts. In this way, everyone will be in a win-win situation. In a word, people must be smarter than the smartphone.
