School Rules: Eating in the Classroom

Natalie Chung

There are many rules in the classroom, for example, no speaking too loud, and no sleeping in class. One of the rules is concerned with eating in the classroom. This rule is controversial, for both teachers and students have different opinions about it.

Many teachers do not like students to eat in the classroom. The food’s smell may affect other students. The student who eats in the classroom may not keep his mind on the book. In addition, eating in the class is impolite to the teacher. It is very hard for the teacher to teach if students just care about their food. Therefore, most teachers do not allow eating in the classroom.

However, many students do not agree with this rule because they have no time to eat breakfast and lunch. In the morning, they have to take the bus and do not have time to eat breakfast. If they cannot eat in the class, they will be hungry for several hours or they may not come to the class. Most students hope that the teacher could let them eat in the class.

I think that eating in the classroom is okay, but students have to follow some rules. Students cannot eat the food whose smell is too strong, for example, fried chickens and instant noodles. And students have to eat quickly, and do not talk when they are eating. If every student could follow these rules, maybe teachers would allow them to eat in the class.
