Three Types of My Friends

Carrie Shen

There were various friends I have ever had during my life. Surely, some friends would always consider my feeling, some friends were just passers-by through my life, and some friends even hurt my heart for good. Generally, I classified these friends into three groups based on my definition of communication.

First, intimate friends are my best friends. I have a few intimate friends. Though we don’t meet very often, they are always my warmest harbor in my mind. When I face difficulties, they will analyze those problems for me and correct my thoughts. Furthermore, they censure me harshly when I am wrong. Eventually, I realize that they just want me to become a better girl. Undoubtedly, they are like lighthouses guiding and encouraging me on the path of my life. Take my friend, Miko and Julia for example; they have been my best friends since we were elementary students. Though we were in different high schools and universities, we kept in touch with each other and met when we had free time. Once, because Miko broke up with her boyfriend, she was extremely sad. When we knew this thing, we went to accompany her immediately. We consoled her and encouraged her constantly to become a better person for herself. In general, we rely on each other very closely.

Second, I have a lot of general friends during my school life. In fact, all classmates are my general friends. We chat and discuss school work together. However, we will not communicate with each other after graduation. And, we will just say “hi” if we meet each other in any time. For example, my classmates Cindy and Tanya were my high school classmates and general friends. We got along with each other happily in the school days. However, we wouldn’t share our secrets with each other. We just helped each other to finish school work and enjoyed the time taking part in school activities. Consequently, we were just coworkers and had a great time when we were together.

The last type of my friend is fair-weather friends. They always appear when I am good. They like me to help them with some problems and admire me. However, they won’t want to be my friends if I am depressed. It is because that I am no use for them to solve their problems. For instance, Nina and Shelly were my fair-weather friends in junior high school. At the beginning, we were good friends in our class. Then, their grades were better than mine when we were eighth grades. Gradually, they started to dislike me and ignored me. Afterwards, we were no longer friends and even became enemies. It was my painful past and I was very unhappy and depressed at that time.

Surely, I will cherish my intimate friends during my whole life. They will always comfort and accompany me, and they are just like my family. In conclusion, this is my way to classify my friends into these three types-- intimate friends, general friends, and fair-weather friends.
