The Exaggerated and Unrealistic Advertisements

Emily Lin

With prosperous technologies, the dissemination of information is faster and faster than before. And people can get the latest information from various sources, including television, the Internet, and fliers. However, is all of the information really true or good for us? The answer is certainly “No”. For example, exaggerated and unrealistic advertisements are misleading and false. How are advertisements exaggerate and unrealistic? There are three examples that I want to share with you.

The first exaggerated and unrealistic advertisement is about eating medicine to slim down the body. The advertisers often invite famous and beautiful superstars to introduce products. Those superstars show their slender bodies and emphasize the effects of the products, including promoting metabolism, burning fat, and losing weight quickly. Women see those advertisements and are convinced to spend money buying them. However, the constitution of one person is very different from that of another. The material of a product does not suit everyone. Therefore, products may lose their effects. What’s worse, they may cause a lot of sequelae, such as, palpitations, insomnia, anxiety, and blurred vision. If you overdose, you may have cerebral hemorrhage, or even lose your life. The most famous news was that one airline hostess ate some medicine, which caused an illusion, and she committed suicide.

The second exaggerated and unrealistic advertisement is about borrowing money, and loaning. The advertisers often emphasize free deposit, free guarantor, and simple loan. You just need to take your identification to sign. Then you can get money. However, those companies are illegal. They will take your identification to borrow enormous money from the bank. The bank will ask money from you. If you didn’t pay that money, you might be accused. Besides, you should pay an interest to the illegal company. That interest is much higher than the normal rate. If you didn’t pay the interest by the deadline, you should pay more money to them. The famous news was about one man who loaned money from the illegal company but didn’t have enough money to pay his debt. The staffs of the company terrified and harmed the man severely. The man couldn’t bear the torture, and committed suicide.

The third exaggerated and unrealistic advertisement is about buying electronic products such as television or an air conditioner. The advertisers often emphasize the various functions of the products. People buy one and can do lots of things with it. However, most of those functions are not really useful for us. The products may usually break down, and take you a lot of time to repair them. Besides, advertisers also may make trickery and convince you to buy products. When you discover that you are cheated, you can only grin and bear it. The one exaggerated and unrealistic advertisement is about the product of an air filter. The product is claimed to be able to disinfect foods. It can be used it to clean the residual antibiotics. However, it’s not a fact. There are no strong evidence and experiments to prove it. It is just a false claim.

According to these examples, we can understand how exaggerated and unrealistic advertisements can be. Whenever you see an advertisement, and have an impulse to act, you must look before you leap. So that you won’t feel regret.
