Cats or Dogs?

     Dogs and cats are the most common pets kept by humans. These two animals have completely different habits. If it is not purely based on personal preference, people may decide to keep a cat or a dog according to the pets’ needs. Hence, I would like to illustrate the differences between the needs of dogs and cats.

     One difference between cats and dogs is that dogs need to go for a walk or pee outside. The dog will run around, and may go under a tree to urinate. The owner needs to pick up the shit and throw it into the trash can. Unlike dogs, cats don't need people to take them out, and they only need cat litter to pee or shit in the house. And they will pee on cat litter by themselves. Thus, it is much easier to clean cats’ feces than dogs’.

     Cats love to be clean, they always lick fur with their tongues every day, but they don’t like to take a bath. It is their natural habit. Dogs are not afraid of bathing, so it is easier to bathe dogs than cats. But it is usually the owner’s responsibility to bathe the dog regularly to keep it clean.

     Dogs like to bark when they see strangers, when they are sick, or when they just want to attract humans’ attention. Because of this barking habit, some landlords will prohibit dog owners from renting the house. Compared to dogs, cats are quieter, so this characteristic may be the reason that cats are sometimes allowed in some rented apartments and public places.

     In conclusion, both dogs and cats have their own advantages; we can choose cats or dogs according to our preference or their needs. When people asked me which pets I liked better, I would usually answer cats. For me, it is much easier to keep a cat than a dog at home.
