Life Without Electronic Media

Nowadays, most people can’t be separated with electronic media. We use cell phones or smartphones to contact with others, watch entertaining programs or movies on TV, and search information and do homework by using a computer. Therefore, if all electronic media disappeared, what would we do for entertainment? How would we communicate with our friends and family? How would we search information and do homework?

First, what could we do for entertainment if there were no electronic media? We could climb the mountain, ride a bicycle, and do bird watching with our friends and family on weekends. I like to ride a bicycle along the Tamshui River Bank and through the Guandu Bridge to the Shihsanhang Museum of Archaeology with my uncle and cousins. And I also like hiking to the Zhongyi Mountain with my friends. I prefer doing some exercises to sitting in front of the television as a couch potato or playing a computer all the day. In this way, I can get close to nature and keep my body healthy. Moreover, I can read extra readings in my leisure time. For example, I enjoy sharing the story which I read with my mother and my mother also shares some good books which she read recently. Therefore, we get closer to each other through sharing good things.

Second, how would we communicate with our friends and family? Although we could not connect with our friends and family immediately by using cell phones, we could stay in touch by sending letters or postcards. Writing cards or letters by our hands can show our sincerity. Besides, the receiver can collect them for memorizing. I like to send postcards which I bought at beautiful and famous tourist attractions to my friends and family. I think sending postcards can convey our warm heart in short words and share joyful things with people around us.

Third, how would we search information and do homework? My senior high school teacher told us that he went to the library to search information and wrote homework by hands instead of using websites and typing papers on the computer. So they were diligent on their schoolwork. Hence, we still can follow the original ways to complete our homework without computers and the Internet.

In sum, most people rely on electronic media too much, but we could live happily and meaningfully by doing things in a conventional way. We can do exercises and read for entertaining; we can write our feeling in words to send a letter; we can find knowledge in precious books in the library. Therefore, life without electronic media is not a bad thing and we could still have a wonderful life without them.
