Good Roommates

Living with good roommates is a wonderful thing. It is vitally related to our happy daily life. As we know, living with other people can be a great challenge, especially when each person comes from a different background and has his or her own living style. Hence, we have to learn how to be a good roommate. In my opinion, a good roommate should be thoughtful, tolerant, and respectful.

Emma, who is my roommate, is a good example of being a thoughtful roommate. She always awakens much earlier than others so she will wake up other roommates if they have class at eight o’clock. Once I was very ill and she was attentive in taking care of me and called the housemother for helping me.

If communicating doesn’t work, endurance is the best way. My friend Nina also lives in the dormitory. Sometimes she complains to me that one of her roommates usually listens to music without using earphones. Besides, she talks loudly and makes noises when other roommates are sleeping. Nina has communicated with her about the inappropriate acts, but she is still going her own way. Therefore, not only Nina, but also others have to tolerate the difficult roommates till the end of this semester.

Being a respectful roommate is very important because we are living in a dormitory room with five different people coming from different places and who have dissimilar habits. So we have to learn how to respect each other’s living style. For instance, we should turn off the light immediately when someone goes to bed. And we don’t intrude others’ personal space.

Sharing a room with other people can be difficult, but I am so lucky for having five good roommates this semester. They are considerate, tolerant, and respectful to each other. And I believe that my roommates and I will do our best to accommodate and respect one another’s habits and lifestyles.
