A Healthy Change

Alyosha Chen

Every now and then I always try to ask myself to sleep earlier but failed; it is such a challenge making up my mind to leave this beautiful and quiet night behind. The consequences are: my skin gets worse, my brain doesn't work and I can't control my temper. As asking myself to sleep earlier is almost impossible, I try something different.

I believe every thing and place has their own energy; in Chinese culture, we call it "chi," and "chi" changes from time to time. For instance, when I sleep late at night, I don't have good "chi;" if I have a good swim in the morning and smile to everyone, I will have better "chi." Here are some changes I made to turn myself into a healthier person.

First, when I wake up and brush my teeth in the bathroom, instead of making a long face and complaining how terrible it is that I have to wake up so early, I smile to myself and say "good morning" as energetically as possible. This is really a good way to wake myself up and give myself energy.

Second, I go to swim every morning from 7:00 to 8:00. Having a regular exercise is definitely a good way to improve not only our health but also our body shape. At first it will be hard, especially for someone who sleeps late like me. So here are the solutions: 1. Set two alarms to wake myself up. 2. When I wake up, get off the bed immediately. 3. Tell myself that if I want to have a great body and good efficiency I must not be lazy. Little by little, I feel more energetic and more clear-headed.

Third, I smile more. A smile is an international body language that tells you would like to show your goodness to people. There is a saying, "what goes around comes around." If you smile to people, and show them your kindness, you will have a good mood all day long! There is a tip for smile beginners: you can make a list, and write down how many people you are going to smile to today, and add 5 people everyday until it becomes your habit.

I started doing this last week; on the first day I smiled to 5 people and said hello to them, and now I smile to 20 people a day. And the result is good; I get good energy and feedback right after I start doing this.

It is such a great experience that I can jump out of my life and check what is wrong with it and try to make some healthy changes for it. I believe health is our most precious thing in life; we should start taking care of it before it is too late. Following these three tips can not only make me feel better, have better "chi," but also make people around me share better energy with me; isn't it a valuable change to make?
