The Positive Effects of Adoring a Star

Many people think that adoring a star is just a blind worship. Why do we waste money on someone who doesn't know us at all? Many parents think chasing stars will lead to poor grades. I think these are just prejudices. In fact, there are many positive influences from admiring idols. It can change and even save a person’s life.I will cite three major effects on me, which are giving me motivation to learn new things, and providing me psychological support and courage.

The first effect is that it gives me the motivation to learn new things. In order to understand what my idols post on SNS and what they say in live streams, I started to learn Korean. I bought relevant language books for self-study at home, often watched variety shows and TV series to listen to their pronunciation, and also learned a lot of cultural knowledge on the Internet. Although I am not very familiar with much of it now, I already have a way to read Korean words and sentences, and I can understand most of what Korean people say on the Internet.

The second beneficial effect is the psychological support one can get by following idols’ moves and actions. When I feel sad, listening to idols’ music or watching their videos can be comforting. Whether it is themselves or the message they want to convey through music or images, it tends to make me feel secure more than friends and family do, and I can also get warmth and inspiration from their music or words at the same time. They make me feel alive and happy. For example, the leader of BTS said, “These faults and mistakes are what I am, making up the brightest stars in the constellation of my life.” I have many faults, and I have even more fears, but I'm going to embrace myself as hard as I can. And I'm starting to love myself gradually, little by little.

The last good influence is that it gives me courage. I can see another me from idols, hoping that their success can bring me strength. They are also ordinary people. It's very difficult for them to pass the selection and become trainees of idols. What's more, they have to face more difficult things and have to bear more responsibilities. Why can't I do that? When I was the most vulnerable, I told myself in my heart that my idols were also working hard for their dreams step by step. If we want to move forward, we can do anything as long as we have a dream or a goal and put it into action.

Adoring a star is not wasting life. Rather, there are people who insist on completing their studies, living a good life, and developing themselves because of following their idols. My idols bring me more than others think. They let me grow up. They enrich my spirit and soul. This is the reward they give me. This is what I get through chasing stars. We are not just "fans." We are also chasing "hearts" in the process of chasing stars..
