The Motivations for Studying Hard

Samantha Chang

Everyone wants to get high grades on their exams. As we know, the only way to let us get high grades is studying hard. There are several reasons that can motivate us to pay more attention to our study.

First, we have to thank our parents because of their hard work. My father has worked as a security guard after he retired from the army and my mother is a barber. Both of them do not have high salaries. In order to offer my brother and me to go to school, they have to work hard to afford the charging of the school. The only reason to make them do this is that they want us to learn more knowledge and reward the society. I am so grateful to my parents and this is the one of the motivations for me to study hard.

Second, in order to inspire students to study hard, our school has set up many benefits for us. The most popular is “getting money.” At the end of each semester, every class will have the order of grades. If our grades are on the top of three, we will get the “scholarship.” For example, my classmate, Eva, studies hard all the time in order to get high grades. She wants to get on the top of three so that she can have the benefit.

Third, getting high grades is one of the methods that can build our confidence. For example, my brother didn’t like to study when he was in junior high. He got a poor grade because he wasn’t interested in math. After my mother encouraged him, he had a little confidence and started to focus on the difficulties. The more attention he paid to something, the higher grades he got. He became to have more patience on that subject. Now, he is in a department which is related to the study of math. If we get a promotion on studying, we will be confident gradually.

To sum up, if we want to get high grades we have to study hard and there are some motivations that can inspire us all the time such as being grateful to our parents, thinking of the benefits and building our confidence.
