Bad Things Lead to Good

Jill Lin

When I was a freshman in the university, we had an activity "The Night for English Freshmen." Our class was divided into many groups to finish a performance to compete with that of another class. And our group was called "Circus Girls," which was to present audience a mixed and creative popular dance. We started to think and discuss the contents and details of the performance. We all were hard-working just for one purpose--giving audience our best performance. Then we began to practice many times by looking at many MVs.

In the process of our practice, we had many different ideas and thoughts about this dance. Sometimes we had disagreement, or might insist on our own ideas. We started to have unhappy feelings and arguments with each other. Although I knew that matters like these must happen, I was still scared that our friendship would be influenced this time. In fact, I knew that everyone was tired and unhappy, but we all avoided arguing with each other for our united performance. I remember the feeling when we didn't like each other, and we were mad and sad for many things. We couldn’t get along with each other naturally like before.

In fact, I was tired and felt it was difficult to me. I thought that it was so hard for me to dance. I had to remember these complex steps and imitate those professional dancers. Although I thought it was impossible to me, I still worked hard by practicing a lot. Still, I was blamed by our group leader, and I felt frustrated and discouraged. I thought that she never understood that the dance was hard to me. Maybe she thought it was easy and I didn't pay attention to it, but I wanted to say that I had already made every effort on it.

On the day of "The Night for English Freshmen," we did our best and performed all we had learned and practiced. We showed our achievement which we made through every effort we made each day. We just wanted to make audience know that we cared this performance so much and spent much time on it for presenting an excellent performance. At the moment, I could feel that everyone focused on themselves and danced with full energy. We were happy and enjoyed in the activity. No matter whether the consequence was good or bad, we already didn't care about it at all.

Although we almost lost our friendship during the process of our practice for the activity, we still got many useful skills on solving problems and unforgettable memories which belonged to us. The fact proves that our friendship can be tested. After the activity, our friendship is stronger and we are closer than before. I am happy and cherish that we had this chance to understand each other more and deeper.
