My Special Experience in Childhood

April Leung

I am grateful that my parents gave me an unforgettable experience in my childhood. I have gotten a chance to go to America on a study tour as I was a fifth grade primary school student. I had experienced a lot of first tries during this tour in America. This study tour in America has become the most special memory in my life till now. I also learned a lot during the study tour from the foreign teachers and the peers on the same study tour.

It was my first time staying so long on the airplane and was also my first time standing on the ground of America. I was staying in the homestay family during the study tour. It was also my first time to stay in a foreigner’s home for a month. The host and the hostess were our homestay mom and dad at that time and there were also other family members in their home, including one son and one daughter. They would drive us to school and took us home everyday. Our homestay mom would also make a delicious lunchbox for us everyday. They would drive us to the market to buy food and took us to a lot of places for fun. I was thankful to them for a lot of first times with them.

The experiences in America were the most unforgettable memories in my life. We went to the biggest amusement park in the country and played a lot of exciting games and sports that I had never played before. Furthermore, we also went to the Universal Studios and had a lot of fun with cartoon characters. This study tour really widened my views and I am very grateful to my parents for their letting me to go aboard when I was only ten years old.

Going aboard enabled me to learn a lot in the completely different environment, and interacting with foreign people had improved my Englishgreatly. I think staying in an English-speaking country could improve my English the most because I had to always speak English. In addition, I could be more independent because my family didn’t stay with me. Through the study tour, I have become not only more independent but also more creative. Also, since I experienced a lot of first times I have learned much through the experiences.

This study tour was the most special experience in my childhood and the most unforgettable memory in my life. I was so thankful to my parents and the homestay family who made my happiness through this special learning trip in America.
